What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file, which is stored on the computer, tablet, mobile phone or ultimately, on the device you use to browse the Internet, and which can save information regarding the frequency with which you visit websites, your browsing preferences, the information that interests you most, usernames, register products, etc. Depending on the information they contain and how you use your device, they can be used to recognise the user.
Types of cookies
What cookies do we use and what is their purpose?
“Session cookies” or “Persistent cookies”: the former are deleted when the browser is closed, whilst the latter remain on the computer.
“First-party cookies” or “Third-party cookies”: depending on whether they belong to the website owner or to a third party.
Depending on their purpose, they can be:
“Technical cookies”: These that allow the user to navigate through a website, platform or application and use the different options or services that exist within it, such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted access areas, remembering the elements that make up an order, carrying out the purchase process of an order, making a registration or participation request for an event, using security elements during navigation, storing content for the dissemination of videos or sound, or sharing content through social networks.
“Personalisation cookies”: These cookies allow the user to access the service with some predefined general characteristics depending on a series of criteria in the user’s terminal, such as, for example, the language, the type of browser through which the service is accessed or the regional configuration from where the service is accessed, etc.
“Analytical cookies”: These allow the party responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of the users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of the websites, applications or platforms and to elaborate browsing profiles for the users of these sites, applications and platforms, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the usage data from the users of the service.
“Advertising cookies”: Those that allow the management, in the most efficient way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the edited content or the frequency at which the advertisements are shown.
“Behavioural advertising cookies”: These cookies enable the management, in the most effective way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the publisher has included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided. These cookies store information on user behaviour obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows a specific profile to be developed in order to display targeted advertising.
